It's time for a decisive match in UEFA Champions League Group B on Wednesday, Tottenham host Inter at Wembley Stadium in London and this game will pretty much settle which of these two teams will qualify from this group alongside leaders Barcelona. The reverse fixture was played in September and Inter won it 2-1 thanks to late goals from Mauro Icardi and Matias Vecino after Christian Eriksen had opened the scoring for Tottenham. That was the second victory for Inter against the Spurs, the two sides have met five times until now and Tottenham have won on three occasions.
Tottenham have only one chance to qualify, and that is to defeat Inter Milan on Wednesday. Victory would put the Spurs level with Inter on 7 points ahead of the final group match, and that's not such a bright prospect for Tottenham as they are traveling to Camp Nou to face Barcelona in that game. However, Barcelona are already qualified, and they might not field their best eleven in that game. Last time out Tottenham secured their first victory in this group, 2-1 over PSV Eindhoven, while last weekend they pulled off
a superb 3-1 victory over London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League. That was the fifth consecutive victory in all competitions for the Spurs. Davinson Sanchez and Mousa Dembele are out injured, while Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose have a slight chance of recovering in time.
Inter can play this one safe, all they need is a draw and they will be certain of finishing second behind Barcelona in this group. If they lose this match they still have the chance to hope that Tottenham would not win against Barcelona in the last group match, while Inter play at home against PSV Eindhoven. Inter secured a creditable 1-1 draw at home against Barcelona last time out, but immediately after that they suffered a heavy 4-1 Serie A defeat at Atalanta. Last week Inter bounced back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over minnows Frosinone in the Italian top flight. Sime Vrsaljko remains sidelined with an injury, but he remains the only medical concern for head coach Luciano Spalletti.
Probable line-ups:
Tottenham: Lloris - Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies - Sissoko, Dier - Lamela, Alli, Eriksen - Kane
Inter: Handanovic - D'Ambrosio, De Vrij, Skriniar, Asamoah - Vecino, Brozovic - Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic - Icardi
My prediction: Tottenham to win 2-1, Inter will play for the draw but the Spurs should be able to squeeze past.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
