Reigning Italian champions Juventus have a tough night ahead on Wednesday as they travel to London to face Tottenham at Wembley Stadium in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie. The first leg was quite the thriller, Gonzalo Higuain put Juventus two goals ahead after just nine minutes, Harry Kane clawed one back before half-time and then Higuain missed a penalty kick before Christian Eriksen nailed the equalizer for Tottenham. That was the first ever direct meeting between the two clubs in a competitive match.
The first leg result was a significant confidence boost for Tottenham, fighting back from 2-0 down against Juventus in Turin is something that only a few teams in the world are capable of doing. Since then the Spurs needed two matches to get past Rochdale in the FA Cup but they secured two Premier League wins without conceding: 1-0 at Crystal Palace and 2-0 over Huddersfield last week. Serge Aurier is suspended for this match and will most likely be replaced by Kieran Trippier, while Toby Alderweireld is still unavailable due to a hamstring injury.
Juventus had a perfect run on the domestic front after the first leg against Tottenham: they secured three consecutive 1-0 victories, one in Coppa Italia and two in Serie A, which allowed them to advance to the Cup final and also to move just one point behind Napoli at the top of the league table. Last weekend the Bianconeri had a very tough match at Lazio and they prevailed thanks to a superb last-gasp striker from Paulo Dybala. Gonzalo Higuain was not fit to play at the weekend but he might recover in time for Wednesday's match, while Juan Cuardrado, Mattia De Sciglio and Federico Bernardeschi are definitely sidelined.
Probable line-ups:
Tottenham: Lloris - Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies - Dier, Dembele - Son Heung-Min, Alli, Eriksen - Kane
Juventus: Buffon - Lichtsteiner, Benatia, Chiellini, Sandro - Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi - Costa, Dybala, Mandzukic
My prediction: Tottenham to win 2-1.
