We'll have an all-English clash in London on Tuesday evening in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, Tottenham host Manchester City at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first leg of their tie. The two teams have met in the Premier League at Wembley Stadium earlier this season and Manchester City won that match 1-0 with an early goal from Ryiad Mahrez. Manchester City have won the last three direct matches in the Premier League, but this is the first time these two sides meet in an European competition. Manchester City faced an English team at the same stage of the competition last season and it didn't go well for them as they got beaten both at home and away by Liverpool.
Tottenham have been struggling in the Premier League lately and the Champions League performances represented their only reason for optimism in the past few weeks, along with the inauguration of their new stadium. That occasion also allowed them to return to winning ways in the Premier League as they defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 last week, a result which allowed them to keep their third place in the league table. In the previous round the Spurs pulled off solid performances to knock out Borussia Dortmund with a 3-0 victory at home and a 1-0 success in Germany. Eric Dier, Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela are out injured, while backup striker Fernando Llorente is an injury doubt.
Manchester City are still on course for a quadruple this season, they have already won the League Cup and now they have also advanced to the FA Cup final after a 1-0 victory over Brighton in the semi-finals last weekend. The Citizens have won their last fourteen matches in all competitions and have kept a clean sheet in the last three. Last week they also played a Premier League match, a 2-0 victory over Cardiff. In the previous round Manchester City started with a 3-2 victory at Schalke in the first leg and then demolished them 7-0 in the second. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabian Delph are ruled out by injuries, while Kyle Walker and Sergio Aguero are doubts.
Probable line-ups:
Tottenham: Lloris - Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen - Trippier, Sissoko, Winks, Eriksen, Rose - Alli - Kane
Man City: Ederson - Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Laporte - De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D. Silva - B. Silva, Aguero, Sterling
My prediction: Manchester City to win 3-1, the Citizens seem much stronger than the Spurs at the moment.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
