UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying: Denmark vs Switzerland preview

Two of the three unbeaten teams in UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying group D clash on Saturday, when Switzerland visit Denmark at Telia Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. The reverse fixture was extremely entertaining for the neutral football fans, it ended 3-3 as Denmark fought back from 3-0 down and scored all three goals in the last six minutes of the match. Overall, the two nations have met five times in official international matches, and the record shows one victory apiece and three draws.

Denmark are looking to qualify for their second consecutive final tournament after having reached the round of sixteen at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. They are still unebaten in the qualifying campaign after five matches, but they have won just two of them, and both victories were against the weakest sides in the group: Georgia and Gibraltar. Moreover, their last match in September was a goalless draw in Georgia, a result that could cost them dearly.

Switzerland are hoping to get the most out of a very talented generation, they have qualified for the last three major final tournaments and they are on track to reach UEFA Euro 2020 as well. They are unbeaten after four matches, also with victories against Georgia and Gibraltar and draws against group leaders Ireland and second-placed Denmark. They will surely be determined to get revenge over Denmark after having squandered a three-goal lead in the reverse fixture, but they will have to do it without injured Steven Zuber, Francois Moubandje and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Probable line-ups:

Denmark: Schmeichel - Dalsgaard, Christensen, Kjaer, Larsen - Delaney, Hojbjerg - Poulsen, Eriksen, Skov - Gytkjaer

Switzerland: Sommer - Schar, Akanji, Elvedi - Mbabu, Zakaria, Xhaka, Rodriguez - Embolo, Seferovic, Mehmedi

My prediction:

Both sides will be desperate to avoid defeat in this match, the only result which would out them seriously off-track in the race for qualification. With that in mind, I think it will be an intense match that should end with a 1-1 draw.

Here are the odds for the match at NetBet

Denmark win - 2.25

Draw - 3.25

Switzerland win - 3.35
