UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying: Germany vs Netherlands preview

The biggest match of the day in the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying campaign takes place at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, where Germany take on Netherlands in Group C on Friday. The two sides have already met in this campaign in March, and Germany won that match 3-2 in Amsterdam after the Dutch had fought back from 2-0 down at half time. Overall, Germany have won three of the last six direct matches in all competitions, while Holland have won just one, 3-0 at home in the UEFA Nations League last year.

Germany are not the leaders of the group yet, but that's only because they have played just three matches so far compared to Northern Ireland's four. The Germans have won all their three fixtures, after the victory in the Netherlands they also won in Belarus and then recorded a memorable 8-0 home victory over Estonia. Head coach Joachim Low has included two uncapped players in his squad for this match, Niklas Stark and Luca Waldschmidt, but they are not expected to make the starting eleven.

The Netherlands are hoping for a successful campaign after plenty of failed ones lately, and their qualification for the final four of the UEFA Nations League certainly adds a solid argument ot those expectations. They even reached the final of the Nations League after a 3-1 extra-time victory over England, but then lost 1-0 in the final against Portugal. They have played just two matches in the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, the defeat against Germany and a comfortable 4-0 win over Belarus.

Probable line-ups:

Germany: Neuer - Klostermann, Tah, Sule, Halstenberg - Gundogan, Kimmich, Kroos - Gnabry, Werner, Reus

Netherlands: Cillessen - Veltman, Van Dijk, De Ligt, Blind - De Jong, De Roon - Bergwijn, Wijnaldum, Babel - Depay

My prediction:

With Northern Ireland leading the group table with twelve points out of four matches, neither of these two teams affords to lose this match. Germany are in the middle of a generation change, their team is rather inexperienced at the moment, and I think Netherlands can grab a 1-1 draw.
