British company so far invested $55 million in the US Market
A British company William Hill plc acquired sports betting licence from the Nevada Gaming Commission this Thursday as a continuation of its US investment efforts which so far included purchase of three gambling enterprises earlier this year.
The issuance of licence fulfills requirements arising from the Hills' acquisition of three US companies, as the deal specifies that the British company must obtain a Nevada licence. One of the acquired enteprises, Brandywine Bookmaking, operates 17 sports books in Nevada, in parallel to running the Delaware Sports Lottery with partner firms.
According to the company PR representatives, the recent development is remarkable for enabling William Hill to run a sports book in this US state being the first British betting service to do so. The company will be offering sports betting on mobile devices to players in Nevada, in addition to positioning the company so as to contribute to lifting the US online gambling legal restrictions.
"Mobile gaming is the fastest growing part of our business, and this adds a new dimension for us," Ralph Topping, William Hill chief executive, told the Reuters news agency.
"You're better off having a presence in Nevada. Most people say it's the platinum process you have to go through. You're ready for anything that happens elsewhere in the US,' commented he regarding the issuance of Nevada license.
According to company data, online gambling provided 28% of William Hill's $1.7 billion last year's revenues, Reuters reports. Topping also said that, only two years ago, his company was taking $1.5 million a week from mobile gamblers in UK, while at present the weekly handled amount reaches $25 million.
Topping concluded that his company plans to make more acquisitions in US following various offers from the number of American operators.
