European Championship runners-up France visit the Netherlands on Monday in the major clash of World Cup Qualifying Group A. The Dutch have missed out on Euro 2016, so they want to make up for that disappointment in front of their own fans, while France need as many points as they can get after the goalless draw in Belarus in the opening match of the campaign. The last meeting between the two sides was in March, a friendly which was won by France 3-2.
The Netherlands kicked off the World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw in Sweden but then they breezed past Belarus on Friday, it ended 4-1 with two goals from Quincy Promes. Holland are expected to employ the same eleven that beat Belarus, even though they will face a much tougher challenge against France. This is a chance for the current Dutch national team to prove their worth after missing out on qualification for Euro 2016.
France got off to a slow start to this qualifying campaign with the goalless draw in Belarus but they bounced back with a comfortable 4-1 victory at home over Bulgaria. Kevin Gameiro scored twice as France fought back from 1-0 down after Bulgaria scored early in the game. Bacary Sagna picked up an injury in that match and will not be able to play in the Netherlands, Djibril Sidibe will be his replacement.
Probable line-ups:
Holland: Stekelenburg - Karsdrop, van Dijk, Bruma, Bilnd - Strootman, Wijnaldum - Promes, Klaasen, Sneijder - Janssen
France: Lloris - Sidibe, Varane, Koscielny, Kurzawa - Matuidi, Pogba - Sissoko, Griezmann, Payet - Gameiro
My prediction: 2-2 draw.
