LaLiga: Atletico Madrid sign Benfica forward Joao Felix

LaLiga side Atletico Madrid have broken their transfer record to sign Portuguese teenage sensation Joao Felix from Benfica, the Spanish club paid no less than 113 million pounds for this transfer. This fee makes Joao Felix the fourth most expensive player in the history of football after Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Philippe Coutinho. He is the second most expensive teenager in history after Kylian Mbappe's move from Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain, which was worth 180 million euros. Joao Felix has signed a seven-year contract with Atletico Madrid.

Head coach Diego Simeone and the Atletico Madrid leadership expect Joao Felix to be their new star player as French forward Antoine Griezmann is expected to leave the club this summer. Joao Felix only made his senior debut for Benfica last August but his season was phenomenal as he scored 15 league goals to help his team win the Portuguese top-flight title. He also had a major impact in the UEFA Europa League, he scored a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt in April and become the youngest Portuguese footballer to score three goals in Europe and the youngest player ever to net a hat-trick in the Europa League.

Joao Felix also made his international debut this year as he played for Portugal in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Switzerland. Atletico Madrid have announced another two signings from Portugal on Wednesday, both from FC Porto: 29-year-old Mexico midfielder Hector Herrera joined on a free transfer, while Brazil central defender Felipe, aged 30, has joined for a fee of 20 million euros. On the other hand, Atletico sold defensive midfielder Rodri to Manchester City for 82.8 million pounds and are expected to let Antoine Griezmann move to Barcelona for 120 million euros.

Atletico Madrid are 16/1 at Bet365 to win the LaLiga title next season.
