LaLiga: Atletico Madrid to sign Kieran Trippier

Atletico Madrid continue to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season, now they are set to add Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier to their ranks. The Spanish club will pay 20 million pounds for the England international, even though his contract with Tottenham was going to expire in 2022. The 28-year-old defender joined Tottenham from Burnley in 2015 and scored two goals in 114 appearances in all competitions for the Spurs. His last appearance for Tottenham was in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool.

After the UEFA Champions League final, Kieran Trippier admitted that he was uncertain about his future at Tottenham, amid rumours linking him with a move to Serie A champions Juventus. The Bianconeri are still believed to be looking for a right-back, but Atletico Madrid moved to close the deal for Trippier, further reinforcing their squad after a few very impressive transfers this summer.

Atletico Madrid have already added two important players to their defence by signing centre-back Felipe from Porto and left-back Renan Lodi from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense, whole 24-year-old central defender Mario Hermoso is also set to join from Espanyol. They have also bolstered their attack with the arrival of Portuguese teenage sensation Joao Felix for 113 million pounds from Benfica, while in midfield they added Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid for 36 million pounds. They have now spent over 170 million pounds on new transfers this summer.

However, Atletico Madrid did lose a few key players this summer: Antoine Griezmann joined Barcelona for 107 million pounds, central defender Lucas Hernandez moved to Bayern Munich for 72 million pounds, midfielder Rodri joined Manchester City for 63 million pounds, and veteran central defender Diego Godin moved to Inter Milan on a free transfer. Atletico finished second in LaLiga last season and now they are 16/1 at Bet365 to win the title next season.
